To Conference, or Not?
Do you find yourself balking at the thought of spending the money to attend workshops? Does the time away from your family and the familiar intimidate you?
As I'm attending conferences this week, I am being refreshed to plunge into my work with renewed fervor. I'm finding others who have navigated these waters too, and willing to stretch out an oar.
Monday, I have to admit, I attended a conference begrudgingly. It was a nuts & bolts session of getting published...things I've already studied through other learning opportunities. The greatest take-away element I gleaned? It was the "can-do" attitude of the instructor! Donna Thomas is a 79 year old woman who began writing only six years ago. She now has three books published and is still going strong! (See www.cvministries.org ) Donna's response to those who asked why she should write? "Why not?!"
Why not take a risk?
Why not express your creativity?
Why not try something you've never done before?
Why not trust the Lord to use you where your gifts are a perfect fit?
So, I ask you, why not try a conference for writers or speakers?
A Conference to Consider:
Sandy Cove Christian Writers Conference. Sandy Cove, MD. http://watkins.gospelcom.net/sandycovecommunity.htm
I will be attending this conference. Anyone interested in carpooling, please contact me. I will leave Jamestown early, Sunday Sept 30 and return after Jim Watkins' extra conference, either late, late, late Oct 4 or early Oct 5. Five of us from Jamestown attended last year, and all came home with new perspective.
To Do:
Google writers and speakers conferences online. Explore opportunities to develop your calling. Some to get you started: www.classervices.com, http://www.writetopublish.com/, and www.mounthermon.org/writers/
*Consider joining us on a Tuesday night for CLASS chats. Log on to www.classervices.com and follow the instructions to get to the chat room. You would be amazed at how much you can learn in an hour! Sessions start at 9pm EST with the lesson, then allow for open discussion thereafter.
*What are you most interested in learning about in the realm of speaking? Send it to me in an email and I'll research it for next month's ezine. If your question wins, then you will be highlighted in that ezine as well!
