Grant Writing Basics

Does this apply to you? Maybe in more ways than you think! I was surprised to find out how much money is available to qualified applicants.

I got involved in this grant writing quest, to find aid for bringing www.CloserMomsAndDaughters.com to our area March 29, 2008. What I found, was a whole arena of philanthropic endeavors.

What would you need a grant for? Maybe a new playground at your school, basketball hoops for a neighborhood gathering spot, or blacktop for your church parking lot? You name it; there are monies available to help.

Putting It All Together

This is how they said to compose your proposal:

Summary-overall plan
Statement of Need-why this project is necessary
Project Description-the nuts and bolts of how this would be implemented and by whom
Program Outcomes-measurable results
Program Evaluation-anticipated outcomes and how best to measure results
Budget-describe financial need
Additional Funding Sources-other areas of income
Organizational Information-audiences and services
Appendices-copy of 501(c) 3 letter, and so on.

How to Find What You Need

A good writer learns to adapt to all kinds of audiences. Think of grant writing as another way to help people find what they need and dig in to get it. The previously mentioned directory has links for other states and teaching sites for the art of grant writing. Maybe this is an area that you could bring a lot of good things about in your community!
